Modul University

A bold digital experience that connects global students with their future.

Modul University Vienna is an internationally recognised private university in Austria that offers study programs in English to a diverse international student body. Modul engaged MagiClick to redesign and rebuild their university website as part of a wider digital transformation programme.

Project Goals

The aim was to create a new website that would serve international students from around the world effectively. This involved ensuring information was easily accessible to different stakeholders and providing accurate descriptions of programs, modules, and curriculum.

The goal was to increase the conversion rate of prospective students and better represent the university’s schools and faculty. Additionally, the new website needed to help the university stand out from competitors and be easier to maintain.

Discovery

The discovery phase involved several steps to identify key pain points and opportunities. We conducted workshops with over 15 stakeholders to gather insights from various perspectives, as well as user testing with a wide range of international students. Proto-personas were created to identify different user groups, their reasons for visiting the site, and their pain points. We analysed direct and indirect competitors to identify weaknesses and design improvements. The insights from user testing revealed that students had difficulty finding curriculum and financial information. They preferred a concise presentation similar to the brochure provided separately. The key information they sought included curriculum, fees, and eligibility details.

Based on the learnings from the discovery phase, a low-fidelity clickable prototype with 10-15 pages was developed. These prototypes enabled us to test two distinct home pages and user journeys and were tested with students from various countries, including Italy, Germany, Austria, and Ethiopia. Prototypes were evolved and re-tested with users during the project and this iterative process ensured the end products were finely tuned to user needs.

Once the prototyping was completed our UI design team embarked on creating the full-colour design of the new interface, creating a fresh and bold new interface for a university website.

Implementation

The website was implemented on Sitefinity Enterprise Content Management System, enabling business users within Modul to fully manage and optimise the website. The implementation includes new layouts and components for editors, allowing them to drag and drop a wide range of widgets and components This system ensures a cohesive design and makes it easier to manage staff profiles and bios.

The website integrates PURE for university research, displaying research, authors, and organisations associated with each research on a new, improved list. Additionally, the website features an Instagram API for social media connectivity.

The revamped Modul University website now offers a mobile-friendly, user-centric experience that effectively addresses the needs of international students and various stakeholders. With improved navigation, accurate information, and streamlined maintenance, the new site positions the university ahead of its competitors and enhances its appeal to prospective students.
